Brian Mahoney is known for his role as Detective Duffy in “The
Boondock Saints” film series. Movie Mikes had a chance to
chat with Brian about “Boondock” and what it was like
working on the films.
Mike Gencarelli: How did you get involved with
“The Boondock Saints” for the first film?
Brian Mahoney: The script was at New Line Cinema at the time.
I had a girlfriend who was working at New Line and I was tracking
everything that came into that studio. I was reading scripts and
that one just caught my attention. The structure of “The
Boondock Saints” was just so different. It has a real edge
to it. I got on early on when Harvey Weinstein was telling Troy
(Duffy) he would buy him during the bidding war with New Line.
It was a hot property.

BOSTON.COM: Framingham native returned to town to prep for
Boondock Saints sequel
It’s not uncommon for Brian Mahoney to return
to Framingham, drive through his hometown, stop by a local bar
to grab a drink and watch whichever of Boston’s sports team
is playing on TV that night.
But one of his most recent visits was more than
just a casual stay. Mahoney was preparing for the biggest role

the trailer for Troy Duffy’s The Boondock Saints II: All
Saints Day, which will be released by Sony’s Stage 6 Films
in limited theaters on October 30th.
The
film is the continuation of Duffy’s tough, stylized cutting
edge saga of fraternal twins, the MacManus brothers (Norman Reedus,
Sean Patrick Flanery). The two have been in deep hiding in the
quiet valleys of Ireland, far removed from their former lives
or modern technologies. When word comes that a priest has been
killed by sinister forces in the tough underworld of Boston, they
return to mount a violent and bloody crusade to bring justice
